“SURVEYS” help how???

By Damon M Appel, OEF CEO & Contributor

Jim Renacci DOES NOT support capital punishment for First Degree Murder, *according to* his Ohio Christian Alliance “survey” response.

While everyone’s been busy picking-apart Joe Blystone’s affirmative response to the Ohio Christian Alliance’s “survey” regarding recreational marijuana legalization (which he has claimed was in error)…look what has gone unnoticed:

His opponent, Mr Renacci, responded that he OPPOSES Capital Punishment.

Look: It’s probably not in the interests of conservatives in Ohio for it to become like Colorado, with weed being sold in every shopping center. But, EVEN IF any one of the Gubernatorial candidates legitimately responded affirmatively to that (without retraction), it in no way compares to a conservative candidate being OPPOSED TO THE DEATH PENALTY, like Mr Renacci apparently is.

You’ll note, above, that I typed “survey” in quotations… because whether these “surveys” are from Ohio Christian Alliance, OAMF, or any other organization, they often seem skewed (either by chance or design) to tell a certain rather incomplete story. In the case of Ohio Christian Alliance, in the same PDF linked above, they have EQUIVALENT answers on all 11 questions for Gibbons, Mandel and Timken. –What possible “use” is such a survey to voters?

And, in the case of OAMF: They’ve been handing out “A+” like candy regarding “medical freedom” responses to people like Mr Renacci, Mr Vance and others, often ranking them ABOVE responses by other candidates who have consistently fought FAR HARDER and longer for medical freedom. For example, Niel Petersen is a pastor who has actually written countless Religious Exemptions for people faced with medical ‘mandates’ from their employers, while Jim Renacci is on-record MANY times stating his belief that employers have a “right” to enforce masks and medical treatments on their employees…yet BOTH were recently given an “A+” as a result of the OAMF medical freedom “survey”.

I subjectively propose to you this: “Surveys” merely tend to trap certain candidates in a written response, while elevating other Mainstream candidates to a level of acceptability that their actual advocacy and/or voting history do not match.

Anyone can write a response to a survey. Can they back it up with the persistent, historical evidence of their actions?

Since Mr Blystone claims there was an error in his response to recreational marijuana, I’m open to hear Mr Renacci claim he erred in responding to the capital punishment answer. –We’d probably have his voting record to go by, anyway.
